Voices of Morton

Singing Competition for Young People

Date: Saturday, August 8, 2026
Phil & Barbara Kuhl Arts Pavilion, Idlewood Park, Morton

Guidelines for participation:

    • Participants must be between the ages of 10 and 18 on the day of the competition.

    • Participants must either live within the Morton School District or attend a Morton-area private school.

    • Eligibility determinations are made by MFAA and are final.

    • There is no registration fee unless announced otherwise.

    • Registration is completed online. All required materials — including song information and accompaniment tracks — must be submitted no later than 15 days before the competition date.

    • Late or incomplete registrations cannot be accepted.

    • Each contestant performs one song.

    • Song selections must be appropriate for all audiences and may not include profanity, sexually explicit or suggestive content, references to violence, illegal activity, or other adult themes.

    • MFAA reserves the right to approve, reject, or request replacement of any song selection to ensure the event remains appropriate for the community.

    • Performances must be between three and four minutes in length. Songs exceeding this limit may be stopped.

    • Once a song is approved, it must be performed as submitted. Substitutions or changes are not permitted without prior written approval from MFAA.

    • Recorded accompaniment must be submitted in MP3 format only. Streaming links or video links are not permitted.

    • All accompaniment tracks must be instrumental and may not include background vocals, harmonies, or doubled lead vocals.

    • Live instruments and accompanists are permitted but must be disclosed during registration so MFAA can plan stage layout and sound support.

    • MFAA provides professional sound services but does not supply instruments unless approved in advance.

    • Piano or keyboard use is not guaranteed and requires prior approval. If an instrument is not available, the performer is responsible for providing their own.

    • MFAA is not responsible for technical issues related to accompaniment tracks or personal equipment, nor for loss, theft, or damage of instruments or belongings brought to the event.

    • Performers should wear attire that is appropriate for a community performance — modest, comfortable, and not distracting.

    • MFAA reserves the right to require wardrobe adjustments or deny participation if attire does not meet expectations.

    • Participants and accompanying family members are expected to behave respectfully at all times.

    • Disruptive or inappropriate behavior may result in removal or disqualification.

    • As part of registration, participants will submit a photo and may be asked to provide brief written information for use in printed programs, promotions, judge reference materials, and on-stage introductions.

    • Photos should have a plain or neutral background and feature simple clothing without logos or text.

    • MFAA may request revisions if materials do not meet these standards.

    • Performances are judged based on vocal accuracy, performance quality, and preparedness.

    • Contestants compete within age categories, and awards may be presented in each group.

    • First-place winners are not eligible to compete the following year and will instead be invited back as featured performers.

    • In the event of a tie, placement is determined by vocal accuracy scores, followed by performance scores. If a tie remains, judges will confer and determine placement by majority decision.

    • All judging decisions are final.

    • Competition dates, times, and locations are determined by MFAA and communicated in advance.

    • MFAA reserves the right to modify, postpone, reschedule, or cancel the event if circumstances require.

    • By participating in Voices of Morton, contestants and their parents or guardians acknowledge and agree that performances may be photographed or recorded for promotional, educational, and archival purposes.

    • Participation is subject to MFAA oversight and approval.
